Let’s start by understanding what a goal means, and how is it important?

A goal can be a target, an ambition, a purpose in life or something you need to achieve in life that satisfies you and makes you happy.

As Albert Einstein said, “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.”

How to Set Goals?

Setting goals gives you something to work towards in life. In fact, setting goals gives you a purpose in life. Plus, goals also give you direction and the means to achieve the desired target or ambition in life.

Let’s understand some prerequisites that will help you set and achieve goals. These prerequisites can be sequential but you can still follow them in no particular order as you please:

  1. Mindset: The first thing that is very important for a person is to make up his or her mind about what do they want in life, and what are the things that they want to achieve. Also, how important is it for them to achieve the goal?
  2. Note it down: The next step is to note down all your goals. List them priority-wise.
  3. Plan: After you have your points ready, the next step typically is to plan. Planning is finding ways to achieve your goals. Planning gives you proper direction; it helps you go about it the way it works for you. Planning also motivates you and may thus make things easier for you in the longer run.
  4. Keep Going: Once you have listed goals based on priority and planned accordingly, you just have to keep going and doing things as per your plan. Don’t take a long break; just get started and moving. This part could be a wee bit difficult in the beginning but once you start working towards your desired goals, you will feel good about yourself–and inspired too.
  5. Do not give up: Things take time. Results cannot be seen within minutes of hard work. Just work towards achieving your dreams and goals and do not give up. Keep up the temp. Whenever you get a thought that discourages you or makes you feel that you can’t do it, you just need to reassure yourself to be patient. Also, ignore those negative thoughts. You need to conquer the negative thoughts rather than let the thoughts conquer you.
  6. Work Hard: Nothing comes free or easy and without hard work. You cannot crib and complain all day. You need to work towards achieving your goals because they are important to you. And someday, you will achieve them!
  7. Celebrate: Finally, did your hard work pay off? Yes! Now is the time to celebrate. It was your repeated efforts, planning, and persistence that got you the results and helped you achieve your goals. Now is also the time to look at your other goals and start achieving them too.
